We’re not saying these are songs you’ve necessarily missed, but somehow the lyrics are still burned into your brain. A warning: this list might depress you. You’ll wonder how it is you could still know all the words to a random song from the 90s, but not where you put your keys less than five minutes ago.
Starting off our list at #10 is “Are You That Somebody” Aaliyah. Admit it, you still look forward to busting out the Timbaland verse “Aww baby girl, I’m the man from the big VA” whenever you catch this song on the radio to impress your friends.
The other 9 after the jump.
#9 “I Swear” by All 4 One. You’ve long lost the the cassette single you had of this song, but you haven’t lost the lyrics.
#8 “The Impression That I Get” by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Right now you’re thinking, “Oh yeah. This song. Whatever happened to these guys. And what ever became of the guy who’s job it was to just “skank” on stage with the band?” We don’t know.
#7 “Say You’ll Be There” – Spice Girls. When people bring up the Spice Girls nostalgically/ironically in conversation somehow this song never gets mentioned. But we know you still remember the “I’ll give you anything on this I swear just promise you’ll always be there!” lyric even if you’ve long forgotten about your Girl Power days.
#6 “Walking On the Sun” by Smash Mouth. “It ain’t no joke” you still know all the words to this song.
#5 “Inside Out” Eve 6. Yup.
#4 “Independent Women Part I” Destiny’s Child. Long before there was a Dwight Schrute, Destiny’s Child was starting every sentence with “Question:”.
#1 “One Week” Barenaked Ladies. You could have severe dementia and still remember the “Chickity China the Chinese chicken” verse.
Think we’ve left off any songs? Comment below or email us and maybe we’ll put together a part II of this list.
