“Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground” by Antony & The Johnsons

So by now you’ve probably heard rave reviews from every music blog, podcast, magazine, and hipster friend who makes you mix CDs full of bands you won’t hear of for another 8 months about the latest Antony and The Johnson’s album The Crying Light. Well, now it’s time for my mom, Ilene, to weigh in. Just a bit of backstory, my Mom is probably the hippest in her Boca Raton subdivision. She knows Ne-Yo, Outkast, and her favorite song to dance to is “Too Close” by Next. Let’s hear what she thought of “Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground” (keep in mind that Pitchfork gave this album a whopping 8.6/10) :

OH MY G-D this is so depressing. .. .I don’t know what’s worse. .listening to the pundits discuss the economy of listening to this song. .. . It’s a funeral dirge. . Is it possible I clicked the wrong thing and you meant to send me driving music and dancing music???

There you have it folks. Ilene gives this one 1 out of 5 granola bars.
